Introduction

Marina Borshch was born in Odessa, Ukraine in 1990. She immigrated to the United States of America in 1994 as a Jewish refugee. She graduated from Tottenville High School and the City University of New York - Brooklyn College, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and Chemistry. She later earned a Master of Science in Business Administration, focusing on alternative financial investments.

Early Career

Marina Borshch spent five impactful years at the New York City Comptroller’s Office, where she contributed to the vital mission of maintaining the financial health and integrity of the city government. This experience was instrumental in shaping her professional identity as an investment consultant. The Comptroller's Office is dedicated to building trust and fostering a brighter, more equitable future for all New Yorkers by ensuring that the City government is held accountable for wise budgeting, responsible investing, and fair operations while addressing long-term challenges. Within this framework, Marina worked in the Bureau of Asset Management, which supervises the investment portfolios for the five NYC pension systems. This role fostered a culture of collaboration and growth, emphasizing exceptional investment outcomes for all stakeholders. The Bureau's mission to provide outstanding support to the Trustees and act as responsible stewards of the resources for plan beneficiaries and the city itself deeply influenced Marina's approach to investment. As an investment analyst, she played a pivotal role in overseeing the infrastructure investment program for these pension systems. Reporting directly to the CIO and Heads of Private Equity, Real Estate, and Infrastructure Investments, her responsibilities included: - Supporting the identification and evaluation of potential investment opportunities while conducting thorough due diligence. - Developing financial models and technical analyses to assess historical performance and investment viability. - Collaborating with various teams to negotiate investment agreements, ensuring alignment with the goals and values of the city. This experience not only honed her analytical skills and deepened her understanding of public finance but also instilled a strong sense of responsibility and commitment to ethical investing. Today, as a seasoned investment professional, Marina draws upon her extensive background in public service to guide her approach, ensuring that her investment strategies reflect the same principles of integrity and accountability that she championed at the Comptroller’s Office.

Helping to identify and evaluate potential fund and co-investment opportunities, conducting due diligence, and developing financial models to analyze historical performance. She summarized her findings in investment recommendation memoranda for the internal Investment Committee and Boards of Trustees. Assisting the investment team in reviewing deal documents and collaborating with the General Counsel’s office and consultants to negotiate the terms of new investment agreements. She also contributed to manager risk and compliance reviews. Monitoring the portfolio of existing investments to ensure compliance with the terms of the limited partnership agreements and other contracts, updating internal databases, and analyzing performance. She prepared presentations and analyses for annual implementation and strategic plans. Designing criteria for research analyses on market trends, strategies, industries, sectors, and other relevant topics, ensuring the accuracy of investment reporting, including financial statements, quarterly reports, notices of distributions, capital calls, and investment valuations. Keeping track of investment developments, designing reports to monitor the Systems’ investment activity, and assisting in developing agendas for investment conferences and other events. She was also ready to tackle any related assignments or special projects as needed. It’s all part of her commitment to excellence in the field.

Philanthropy

Marina Borshch has always been committed to making a positive impact in her community, striving to leave everything a little better than she found it. During her high school years, she actively tutored her peers in mathematics, which earned her numerous college scholarships for her contributions.

While pursuing her college education, she became a licensed volunteer EMT-B in New York State, serving with both Brooklyn College Medical Squad and BRAVO EMS in Brooklyn, NY.

From 2012 to 2018, Ms. Borshch was an engaged member and volunteer with the Russian American Jewish Experience (RAJE), where she participated in weekly Jewish learning classes and devoted her weekends to cooking, packaging, and delivering meals to Holocaust survivors residing in Canarsie, Brooklyn.

In 2022, she furthered her philanthropic efforts by establishing Art Masel, Inc., a non-profit corporation and Burning Man Camp. This organization not only partially funds the attendance of several individuals at the event but also provides essential resources needed for its execution. The notable contributions from this initiative have significantly aided in identifying and implementing investments across various asset classes, demonstrating how her dedication to philanthropy aligns with her professional expertise in financial investment.
